Access Statements

The latest edition of the Approved Document Part M of the Building Regulations 2004 recommends that an Access Statement is provided in support of a planning application for non domestic buildings.

The Access Statement is intended to demonstrate the intention and commitment to providing an inclusive design for all users and to illustrate any deviation from the recommended minimum standards.

Access Consultants have the knowledge and skills to assist with the development of an Access Statement to ensure design principles are accessible and that current guidance is being followed.

Access Statements vary in size depending on each individual project and they are a living document which move with the development of the project and should be updated as required. Guidance on Access Statements is available on the Disability Rights Commission web site.

The Embleton Consultancy has completed several Access Statements to date in conjunction with design teams.
